Straw Bale House - Schönhausen (Germany)
Project (Beijing)
DescriptionGalleryDetails
This small house on the edge of a German village has been incepted as a very compact Straw Bale House. Due to its temporary use and isolated location it should match with a highly sustainable life style. The house has got a timber frame structure - the wood comes from certified sources - and the walls are made of straw bales. Due to the the moisture sensitivity of the structure the house gets lifted up of 32cm from the ground to prevent it from ground humidity.
The building shall get a wide autonomy in heating, water circulation and energy sourcing. Therefore the clear southward orientation makes the roof predestinated to host solar panels. The water comes directly out of the ground using a hand pump. The toilet is a compst-toilet which works water-less.
