Office Tower facade design #2 - Shenzhen (China)
Architectural project (Beijing)
DescriptionGalleryDetails
The Client came to us with the complete architectural project for an office tower in Shenzhen, South China, but wanted to have a facade design different from the original project.
Option #2 follows the idea of a homogenious surface whrapped around all the four elevations of the tower. The design works with continous horizontal stripes of open (glass) and close (wall) - the latter covers the ceilings. The closed stripes meander around the tower and give space for openings like "eyes". Consequently, these "eyes" should find and answer in the iterior spaces.
Due to the different exposure of the facades and following the premise that the facades shall react on the tropical weather conditions in South China, the cover stripes on the south side of the building are the most protruding (1,20m) which makes them have an effect of shading, while on both other sides (east and west) these stripes are less protruding (0.80m) and finally almost flat (0.20m) on the north side where they have no effect of shading.
For further stages of the project it's worth thinking if conditions are given to integrate photovoltaik panels into the covered stripes on the south side.
